Flow Trends That Will Drive 2014 Growth

Trends in the mutual fund industry indicate that the positive momentum achieved last year will continue in 2014. Product innovations are opening new doors for both established and emerging players, however traditional asset classes will see tepid growth when compared with a strong 2013. Taxable bond funds will likely experience continued selling pressure in 2014 with a few pockets of positive flows in some of the alternative fixed income categories.

On the ETF side, sector funds should continue to generate flows and alternative ETF products should see strong relative growth. This will also be the year that investors flock to non-traditional products, following strategies in areas such as alternative beta, managed volatility and non-traditional income.
