Xav Feng, Head of Asia Pacific Research, Lipper, commented, “A $532 billion net inflow surged into global fund markets in 2018, and money market funds posted the largest net inflows of $237 billon while bond funds posted a slight net outflow. The US continued enjoying the largest net inflows of $236 billion while Europe posted slightly less net inflows of $1.5 billion for 2018. Following the first quarter’s rally that marked the U.S. stock market’s best quarterly performance in nearly a decade, investors re-gained their confidence and re-invested in risky asset allocation. However, investors should continue watching out for those key issues in the market including U.S. Fed’s monetary policy, Brexit, US-China trade war, upcoming trade negotiations between the US and EU, as well as Japan-US talks.”
