Economic data continue to provide evidence that the worst may be behind us even if the actual numbers are not even remotely close to any definition of ‘normal’. For example, yesterday we learned that the UK unemployment claimant count jumped by 856,000 in April. This amounts to a staggering 2.3% of the current workforce in one single month.
