There has been a rapid growth in popularity of impact investing.

This video shows highlights from the ‘Evolution of Ethical Investing to ESG and beyond’ panel at the recent Thomson Reuters Lipper European Alpha Expert Forum.

Trevor Allen, Product Manager at BNP Paribas Risk and Performance Division, Chris Welsford, IFA and Managing director of Ayres Punchard Investment Management Limited and Andrew Parry, Head of Sustainable Investing at Hermes Investment Management, examine how a sustainable portfolio can help improve investor outcomes.

The panel is moderated by Lawrence Gosling, Founding Editor of Investment Week.

About Trevor Allen

Trevor Allen is a product manager in the risk and performance division for BNP Paribas. He has over 9 years of experience working for BNP Paribas in the US, the UK and France, where he has worked with new and existing clients to tailor performance/risk reporting products to their needs and implemented these clients within the bank.

Trevor has been dedicated to researching Environmental, Social and Governance reporting and Liability Driven Investment reporting, to understand how best clients can communicate how these investments are driving the risk and performance of their portfolios.

He holds degrees in finance and an MBA from Arcadia University in the US.

About Chris Welsford

Chris Welsford, Managing Director, Independent Financial Adviser and Investment Adviser. Chris is a graduate of the University of Southampton (1986) with a B.Sc Hons in Social Sciences Politics.

He joined the UK’s first execution-only share-dealing service, Sharelink, as a Client Account Manager on the 20th October 1987 the day after Black Monday. He then worked in IT accountancy sales before joining one of the last Canadian mutual life insurance companies, Confederation Life in 1992 as a life Underwriter. In 1993 he joined Laurentian Mildon as a financial adviser and Mentor for their fees based financial planning service.

He established Ayres Punchard in 1995 specializing in fees based advice and ethical investing, which remains a core value and a strong part of the investment process employed today. Chris believes that there is firm evidence to show that by taking Environmental, Social and Governance factors into account, when analyzing investment funds and constructing portfolios, more sustainable investment outcomes can be achieved.

Chris is committed to the highest professional standards and holds the IMC (Investment Management Certificate) and is an IMC member of the Chartered Financial Analysts Society of the UK.

He is also a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment.

About Andrew Parry

Andrew Parry joined Hermes Investment Management in December 2006 and as Chief Executive Officer has specific responsibility for risk management, hedging and portfolio construction for the company. Prior to joining Hermes, Andrew established Pembroke Capital Management in January 2003 and successfully launched the Magenta Fund, a global equity non-directional fund in March of that year, which reached $240m peak assets under management.

Before establishing Pembroke, Andrew worked at Northern Trust Global Investments (Europe) Ltd as Chief Investment Officer of International Equities and was responsible for the management of Global, International and Regional portfolios. Prior to Northern Trust, Andrew held a variety of senior investment roles including Head of International Equities at Julius Baer Investments, Chief Investment Officer at Lazard Brothers Asset Management and Head of UK Equities at Baring Asset Management.

He has over 27 years of highly successful investment management and business-building experience and holds an MA in Mathematics from the University of St Andrews.
