Singapore 2019Q2 Fund Flow-Total Net Outflows Triple And Bonds Continue to Draw Net Inflows

Based on the data submitted by the participating Investment Management Association of Singapore (IMAS) members, the various authorized and recognized unit trusts registered for sale in Singapore continued posting net outflows (S$18,031.52 million in aggregate) for Q2 2019. They had posted net outflows of S$5,563.17 million for Q1 2019. Breaking down the data by asset type, equity funds continued posting the highest net outflows (-S$37,490.14 million) while bond funds gained the highest net inflows (+S$19,464.23 million) for the period.

On a quarterly basis, inflows for equity funds soared from Q1 2019’s S$1,522.31 million to S$1,583.71 million for Q2 2019. That accounted for 6.20% of the overall inflows (+S$25,525.41 million) into unit trusts for Q2 2019. The outflows of equity funds rallied from S$24,604.87 million for Q1 2019 to S$39,073.85 million for Q2 2019.

The inflows for bond funds rallied from Q1 2019’s S$18,500.11 million to S$21,071.05 million for Q2 2019, accounting for 82.55% of the overall inflows. Meanwhile, bond funds recorded outflows of S$1,606.82 million for Q2 2019, compared with the previous quarter’s outflows of S$1,305.83 million.

Mixed-asset funds’ inflows soared from S$1,694.52 million for Q1 2019 to S$1,818.98 million for Q2 2019, accounting for 7.13% of the overall inflows. The outflows of mixed-asset funds increased from Q1 2019’s S$1,408.06 million to S$1,867.88 million for Q2 2019.

The total inflows for Q2 2019 rallied from S22,638.15 million for Q1 2019 to S$25,525.41 million, and the total outflows of capital soared from S$28,201.33 million for Q1 2019 to S$43,556.93 million for Q2 2019.

  • Equity funds’ inflows for Q2 2019 rose 4.03%, to S$1,583.71 million, while bond funds’ inflows rallied 13.90%, to S$21,071.05 million, for the period.
  • Outflows from equity funds for Q2 2019 rallied 58.81%, to S$39,073.85 million, while bond funds recorded outflows of S$1,606.82 million—a increase of 23.05% compared with Q1 2019.
  • Mixed-asset funds’ inflows for Q2 2019 rose 7.35%, to S$1,818.98 million, and their outflows increased 32.66%, to S$1,867.88 million, for the period.
