“This month’s Refinitiv/Ipsos Primary Consumer Sentiment Index finds that after a lull in April, American’s sentiment rebounds to where it was in March 2022,” James Diamond of Ipsos states. “This rebound follows a pattern of volatility observed throughout 2022 and ultimately represents a slight decline from where sentiment began at the top of the year.”
Jharonne Martis, Director of Consumer Research at Refinitiv, said, “The Refinitiv U.S. Retail and Restaurant Q1 earnings index, which tracks changes in the growth rate of earnings within the sector, is expected to decline by 18.0% over last year’s levels. So far,113 retailers have reported Q1 earnings; of this group, 102 mentioned inflation and 110 flagged supply chain issues. Retailers continue to deliver warnings for Q2 as they report earnings.”
