Despite COVID-19, foreign beach holidays may still be on the cards for Europeans this summer. Many countries plan to open their borders to intra-European travel from 15 June. For tourist hotspots, such a move is perhaps being driven partly by economics. In Greece, Portugal and Spain, net tourism exports account for 8.1%, 7.3% and 3.8% of GDP, respectively. In Europe, Germany and the UK are large net importers of international tourism, while China is the world’s largest source of travel demand.
