Topping the list of winners in this year’s FTF News Technology Innovation Awards is Tim Lind, chosen as the FinTech Innovator of the Year. The FTF News Technology Innovation Awards were created in 2011 to reward individuals, banks and securities firms and technology and service providers that are advancing financial technology for post-trade operations. The 2013 winners, selected via online voters, were recognized for their efforts in 2012. The online voters were restricted from supporting their own companies.

An industry veteran, Lind urged attendees of the ISITC Annual Industry Forum and Vendor Show in March to take on the “big challenges” such as driving a consensus to make standards a reality such as the push for wider usage of ISO 20022-based messaging. “Don’t create standards unless you have a plan to implement them,” Lind said. To underscore his point, Lind noted that during the darkest days of the Great Recession in 2008 the industry was able to process every trade despite extreme volatility because of the efficiency afforded by standards that ISITC helped create.

In addition to Lind, the other nominees for FinTech Innovator of the Year were: Jan Snitzer, chair of ISITC and vice president for Loomis, Sayles & Co.; Mike Atkin, managing director, EDM Council; Paul Janssens, LEI program director, SWIFT; and Richard Lane, the former senior manager, EDM, Pioneer Investments.

Thomson Reuters also won the Best Operational Risk Management Solution with Accelus Risk Manager. Accelus Risk Manager enables organizations to establish a framework based on their risk appetite to manage operational risk and enterprise risk.

The nominating and voting processes were overseen by a panel that consisted of Maureen Lowe, founder, president and editor-in-chief of FTF News; Eugene Grygo, editor of FTF News; Virginie O’Shea, an analyst with Aite Group who covers data management and post-trade technology; and Evan Fire, principal, manager, operations and administration for Pzena Investment Management.
