Fathom’s Chart of the Day 17.04.2020: US new jobless claims above 5 million for third week running

More than 5 million new claims for unemployment benefit were filed in the US in the week ending 10 April, taking the total to 22 million in four weeks; this compares to the 28.8 million initial claims that were filed over twelve months during the great recession (from July 2008 to July 2009).
